The short answer
- Appointment Trader lets you buy a booking someone else made. The price is set between buyer and seller.
- Resy and OpenTable terms prohibit reselling reservations, so check the rules before you buy.
- To book at the restaurant's own price, use cancellation alerts, built-in Notify, or book when new dates open.
What Appointment Trader is
AppointmentTrader describes itself as a marketplace to trade reservations, tickets, tee times and other appointments. A buyer offers a reward for the table they want, sellers name their price, and the site suggests amounts based on recent trades. Another user accepts, and the booking is transferred into the buyer's name. AppointmentTrader holds the payment in escrow until the booking is confirmed and says it refunds in full if the booking falls through.
Its terms call it a neutral marketplace that does not verify or guarantee postings, and mention posting, account verification and payout processing fees.

What Resy and OpenTable say about resale
- Resy: “You shall not resell or distribute, or attempt to resell or distribute, any Reservations.” (terms, effective June 9, 2025).
- OpenTable: “Resale or attempted resale of reservations or waitlist spots is prohibited”. Its terms add that resale is grounds for canceling the reservation (terms).
